If you are a victim of domestic violence or abuse or have been served with a temporary civil protection order against you, please contact Lardiere McNair to schedule an appointment and seek legal advice. Domestic violence or abuse can be physical; mental or financial.

Some tips to help you protect yourself or a loved one that is a victim of Domestic Violence or abuse can include:

If you or your loved ones feel threatened or are in imminent danger, call 911.  Find a safe place.

Establish a support system.  Talk to a trusted relative or friend.  Consider contacting the nearest domestic violence program nearest you; sooner than later.

Be ready to act in a moment's notice.  Have emergency bags packed for the adults and children that can be accessed easily.  Be mindful of having all medications.

Protect your digital identity.  Have new and protected passwords.  Have alternative devices stored someplace safe and accessible.

Protect your finances.  Change on-line banking access.  Close or limit the balances in any joint or shared accounts; close credit cards where possible and obtain new ones.  Do not co-sign for leases or loans or any other financial obligations, including health care treatment.

When possible to do so safely, get proof of the abuse. Photos; witnesses; texts; emails; voicemails; and doctors records can all be important.

If you are going to end the relationship, do so in a safe environment.

There are various local and national organizations and resources to assist victims of domestic violence.  These include:

The National Domestic Violence Hotline.
